What I've been reading 4/11

During the past weeks of no letter-writing, I have read several books. However, I shall write about one book in particular, The Cay, by Theodore Taylor. It is about a young boy, Philip, who becomes shipwrecked on an island with his only company being an old West Indian. He later becomes blind and must depend on him, even though Philip has always had a strong resentment towards black people.

I liked several things about this book. One thing would be that this book teaches a lesson. This would be that you should accept people not based upon what they look like, but what they act like. Also, a second lesson this book teaches is that whatever happens, you should persevere and never give up, because things will always get better.

Furthermore, this was both an excellent and moving book for multiple reasons. Primarily, The Cay teaches the moral of to not judge a book by its cover. Simpler put, you should not judge others based on their appearance. Secondarily, this book demonstrates that even in times of strife, you should never lose hope, for all will be resolved sometime. I would recommend this book to anyone, as it conquers racism in such a fashion that this book should be deserving of an award.
